Join us for a fascinating day of talks, discussion, music, poetry, and historical exploration as the National 1798 Rebellion Centre hosts its annual “Anniversary of 1798 – Summer School” Featuring leading historians, researchers, and tour guides, this year’s programme highlights the people, ideas, and legacy of the 1798 Rebellion from a variety of perspectives.

“Wolfe Tone’s Journey from Reformer to Rebel”
Speaker: Mary Brickley
This talk explores the political evolution of Wolfe Tone, from his early involvement in parliamentary reform to his emergence as one of the leading revolutionary figures of the United Irishmen. Discover the events and influences that transformed Tone’s vision for Ireland and shaped his lasting legacy.

“What Can Women Give but Tears? The Role of Women in the 1798 Rebellion”

Women played a vital but often overlooked role during the Rebellion. This talk examines the contributions of women at both local and national levels, exploring their influence, participation, and representation through the symbolism of the Maid of Éireann and the stories of remarkable individuals connected to 1798.
