The National 1798 Rebellion Centre and Enniscorthy Castle are Enniscorthy’s premier tourist attractions and offer a fun, educational, and totally new school tour experience.

The National 1798 Rebellion Centre

Through our newly developed exhibition, ‘Rebellion Experience’, the Politics, Conflict and Society strand of your history syllabus is dramatically brought to life, giving each student an appreciation of social strife during 18th century Ireland. Imaginations of both teachers and students will ignite as they meet the key figures of the Rebellion, participate in our state-of- the- art 4D Battle of Vinegar Hill Experience, and even discover how weapons from the period worked, under the guidance of our friendly, knowledgeable tour guides.

As part of our Guided tour, we offer a talk about the “Weapons of the 1798 Rebellion”. This display gives visitors the opportunity to handle both replica and original weapons from that period offering an insight into the warfare of the era. These talks are conducted upon request for a tour.

Enniscorthy Castle
A visit to Enniscorthy Castle is a must for classes learning about the Anglo-Norman invasion or Medieval Ireland. Students will learn about the early stages of Medieval County Wexford, dress up in medieval costume and experience medieval weapons and armoury. We guarantee that you students will love a visit to our medieval dungeon or the views from the battlements on the roof of the Castle. Enniscorthy Castle also hosts exhibitions on the local Merchant families, architect and designer Eileen Gray and Enniscorthy Town’s participation in making
the film Brooklyn.

Our packages start at €4.00 per student per site. We also offer the chance to visit both sites at only €6.00 per student. We also offer the opportunity to have a fully guided tour of Vinegar Hill, the famous battle site of the 1798 Rebellion. And that’s not all we have to offer; we can offer a guided tour of the 1916 Rising Exhibition in the Athenaeum Museum, learn about the part Enniscorthy played during the 1916 rising and the impact this revolution had on the county of Wexford.
